Molly Quirks Glen is a place I used to play as a boy in primary school. It holds some good memories. As with all memories though it is deceptive. I remember it as being somewhat bigger and more open. If you thought the other rivers were tight this one is in another league. Bow and arrow casting was the order of the evening with only a few places I could throw a normal cast. The water is very shallow with a good pool being a foot and a half deep. Still there are spooky fish about. I had to sit still for 10 minutes while they stopped darting around one pool. They had seen me from 10 yards away and were already agitated. Patience and stealth is everything though and in the end I was rewarded with a nice little brownie, out of the faster water in the neck, with bright red markings on his huge tail and a bad attitude. Despite fishing the whole length of the glen I didn't have another take. I can;t say I'll be returning to this stretch. It really is seriously thin even though there are fish to be had.

That brown trout looks really wild! The white edging on the fins reminds me of brook trout that they stock in a small still water near to us. Good luck judging the comp! Simon

Thanks Simon... it's going to be a nightmare to judge.
No brook trout here. All browns and the odd escaped rainbow from the reservoirs. They did do some stocking for a while but again it was all from local brood stock with nothing imported. I don;t believe they are stocking any more.

Cust,
A couple of nice shots of the river and you can see how tricky it is to fish...I have to say the long T rods are great for the bow and arrow casts and you can get to places that would almost be impossible with a traditional fly rod and line....that trout is a beauty....I don't think I've ever seen such distinctive red colouring on the adipose and tail fins of any trout that I've caught...I take a closer look next time I catch some
tight lines

Molly Quirks Glen- Groudle River?
Sounds like a place out of a childs fairy tale Cust. It looks like one too.
Stunning well marked little fish. It makes you wonder how old this fish would be from such a tiny water?
Regards Stevie.
