Hello all i bought a Yamame about 2 years ago & never used it .But this was now changed & i must say what have i been missing (love it).I have been using 4.5 Tenkara level line with it that i bought when i bought the rod.I am finding that this casts very well with my Yamame. But when fishing dries i am finding it awkward when i want to lift the line & most of the tippet off Unless i shorten things up.On the Tenkara Bum site he suggests a 4 or 5 level line for a Yamame.Maybe i am just not used to it yet but would the Yamame handle a 3 level line OK.The main thing that was putting me off using it was the bad press i read after buying it that they are only for small fish. The other day i had a few trout up to about 1/12lb & the Yamame handled them easily enough well impressed.

rabmaxy, You will find it even harder to cast with a #3 level line rather than a #4.5. Length of the level line and tippet is the key. Once you get above 15' of level line it starts to get tricky to be in control of the line. Furled leaders are easier to cast and probably better for dry fly fishing IMHO. Remember a standard size furled leader length is 10'6". You can make up tapered fluorocarbon lines that will help turnover of the fly as well. As far as the bad press is concerned....the folk who think it is for little fish are normally the ones who fish in reservoirs for rainbows not rivers and streams where a 1 1/2 lb is a very good fish...and all T rods will handle that size without any problem. The Yamame is of course Tenkara USA's most powerful rod and can handle much larger fish....I have a Yamame and I love it....
tight lines

I think i will stick with the 4.5 level line for now then Alex.I was reading up on techniques on TenkaraBum the other day.I came across long rod short line Tenkara. This looks appealing to me as i fish a lot of pocket water & like to lift everything off anyway. It's all good .Cheers
