I have a number of greys floating mono leaders that i use for loch & res fishing, they give good turn over on my conventional tackle. Has anyone used them as a leader on your tenkara set up? Am i wasting my time with this idea?

You might find they area little too light. Give them a go anyway! ... You never know it might work.

stevie, Definitely give it a go. It depends what size the leader is...you will probably have to cut it down a bit...I was using a 7' shakespeare tapered leader and cut it down to 4'...worked fine. Alex

Hi leckie.
Think it could be a good idea for the dry fly. what do you think?

I'd be looking for fluorocarbon tapered leaders to give you the extra weight for the diameter. Unforunately they only give the tip diameters and the butt is just as important.

I've never tried a fluorocarbon leader. Is this something you stock custheyer or is it a trip to the tackle shop?

Come the end of the month there will be all sorts of goodies. A trip to the tackle shop for now I'm afraid.

Leckie
I gave the leader theory a try on the river saturday evening.
Tried 7ft & 9ft mono leaders with 5ft to 6ft tippet, They turned everything from a size 20 F fly to a size 10 klink over with ease.
As an experiment i then tried some nymphs, started with a smaller team of three size 14's unweighted and worked my way upto breaking point with a team of two size 10 weighted goldheads. Turnover on the 14's was ok,ish, as for the 10's not a chance. I thought this would be the case but you dont know untill you've given it a go.
One thing i did notice with the leader was how delicate it presented the dry flies. Also on lifting and recasting the leader didnt seem to be loaded with water causing very little spray & surface disturbance.
I am now in possession of some fluorocarban leaders so it looks like i'll be givin them a whirl later this week. I'll post the findings ASAP.
Regards stevie.
