The impression I get from this forum and the tenkara threads on the UK Fly Fishing Forums is that tenkara anglers here fish weighted nymphs most of the time. That might be because tenkara is new enough that most of the time since tenkara hit these shores it's been too cold for the fish to be looking up. As soon as you can get away with using unweighted fliels, I would urge you to try them - either upstream spiders, winged wets or dry flies. They are so much nicer to cast than weighted nymphs. For dries, the only fly I use is the CDC & Elk, but I'm sure your local patterns would work as well. Here's why I like the CDC & Elk: www.tenkarabum.com/CDC-and-Elk.html

Chris, Weather conditions were mainly dictating the weighted nymphs. My last run out with the Tenkara was with #20 dries. The first time I have used dries on the T and the equipment performed admirably once I tweaked my tippet config. Weather conditions have scuppered the plans for the easter weekend also. Its all freestone in N Wales and they are beginning to bulge. Add to this the imminent melt from the snow we have just received on the higher ground... BTW CDC + Elk is good performer over here also.
