I fished Tenkara a lot last season and took sizeable fish where in the past only 6 inchers lurked, so it works. Lost a few too, need to get a net with a longer reach. So the Iwana has had many outings. But I broke the tip twice, no not when fishing, when tackling up Sliding out the tip, whilst walking to the bank, not recommended, I put a tiny amount of side force on the tip and it snapped. I managed to bodge the tip and caught fish. Next session did exactly the same, did a running repair by passing mono through the full length of the rod and tying off on the handle screw seat and landed a 2lber. Well thats 2 tips broken in the season, I've repaired them and will order a spare, and another shorter rod , any excuse. So the big question am I the only one who breaks tips Bill

springwell, I fished with my tenkara rod all last season mostly twice per week without any breakages. I am very careful when it comes to setting up the rod as I left the rod tip plug on the bank once when I was setting up. It was only about an hour later that I realized that it was gone. But to my surprise and delight I retraced my steps and found it ;D I must admit it would never occur to me to try to commence tackling up on the move....you must be as keen as mustard to get your fly on the water for that to happen I suspect. I have two rods the 12' Iwana and the 12' Yamame and only ever take the one rod with me...think I might take both with me in future and leave one in the boot of the car..just in case. leckie

See that i am not the only one breaking Tenkara rods.Just broke the top 1 1/4 inch from the top of the second top section on my Yamame.I broke it when collapsing the rod & can't believe how easily it broke.Guess what Tenkara USA are out of spares for the Yamame in the uk.

Out of spares? tells you something doesn't it. Everyone i've shown my T rod too have mentioned how fine the tip section is. Must admit to my teeth being on edge when im tapping back the tip, its only a matter of time before i break mine. Hope its after a fishing session & not before.

Hi all. Nor sure if I have been lucky but I have not broken my rod in nearly 3 years, that includes landing a double figure salmon with it. Yes the tip is very fine, you just have to collapse the rod in a straight line.

RE Simon.
Double figure salmon on your tenkara rod!!! Now that would get the heart pumping, it would have to feel like catching a bull on the backcast. I've had quite a few small loch salmon on a 9ft #6 & they were a handful.
Back onto the tip subject, Your Talking to the Frank Spencer of tenkara here, I can see a trip to the TenkaraUSA web site coming on too.
Regards Stevie.
