Hi,
My sons and I are totally new to Tenkara!
We will visit nice rivers etc when we can but we live closer to coarse ponds and the River Hull.
Here's my potentially silly question! -
As well as Trout on the River Hull, can we catch fish like Carp, Tench, Roach, Bream, Rudd, Ide, Crucian Carp, Perch, Bream, Perch, Chub and Dace in ponds?
Cheers in advance for helping the inexperienced!
Chris

You can catch almost anything provided it takes a artificial fly. Roach, Rudd, Chub and Dace would be suitable fish to target. Bottom feeding fish such as Carp, Bream and Tench are not suitable fish to try for. Catching coarse fish on fly can be fun.
I hope that this helps

I have caught perch on a tenkara rod. Accidentally as they had strayed upstream from a reservoir. Take was quite different from trout. 3 little knocks, I think, then they left it. Eventually I struck on the first knock which usually worked. Good size and fight on a T rod. I suggest you look for regular fly fishers who target coarse fish and adapt. There are several who write in Trout Fisherman and other mags from time to time. One targets carp. That might not be wise...
