hi all, I have been fishing tenkara since the late 2000's when most of my tenkara gear was imported from the USA and japan.
I have seen and big change into companies now selling multi length tenkara rods. I can see the advantage of being able to adjust the length of the tenkara rod as the river conditions/obstruction change.
My question is are seperate sections removed or added to the tenkara rod to adjust the length or are the lower sections (sections closest to the rod handle) either left clasped and/or extended to change rod length. I assume there is a way of locking the lower sections that have not been extended into place???
Kind Regards DT

The lower sections are left collapsed or extended to change the length. Different manufacturers have slightly different methods for holding the "zooming" sections securely when not fully extended, but in all cases I have seen they are held just by friction rather than locked in place.

The friction hold on the lower sections is now fairly universal with the end cap holding the collapsed section. Some rods have additional friction at the other end of the collapsed section. I looked into twist lock mechanisms and all of them added considerable bulk and weight to the rods.
