I would not try it if I thought that there was a chance of a half decent carp. A Tenkara rod is not cut out to deal with that type of fish.
I do know someone who has caught a 2lbs chub on one.

I don't think there are any suitable tenkara rods for carp but there are other fixed line keiryu rods that would handle a decent carp and cast a fly nicely.

Mark I agree with Richard to some extent. I would go for a rod and line and reel set up to be fair on the fish. I have seen footage of people engaged in protracted battles with big carp and salmon on fixed line set ups and it does not do anything for me being honest. I have caught plenty of carp on a fly rod and it is great sport but would not venture into Tenkara gear to catch one. Just my personal opinion of course.
