Great programme Paul. Well worth watching. Fascinating. Great to see the wild life interacting with the people.

Thanks for the link, Paul. The film is breathtaking. It must be quite overwhelming to fish in such surroundings. The great Japanese print makers often use these natural beauties in their work, and it is worth looking them up. I have two reproductions that evoke some of them. One is Hokusai's "Kirifuri Falls near Mount Kurokami in Shimotsuke Province", which is an amazingly vigorous painting of a famous waterfall and is part of a series of 8 prints of different famous falls. The other is Kunisada's "Firefly Hunting", which shows two ladies capturing the fireflies to place in paper lanterns that they carry. As for cherry blossom time, it must have been depicted in thousands of prints!

Paintings sound fantastic Dave.
You are right about fishing in those surroundings. The Hida mountains mentioned in the program is where we have done all our fishing in Japan to date. Also I had a message from my friend Kura-san yesterday saying that he was camping out surrounded by fireflies.
Very cool.
