Of interest to those who like to experiment with different lines is this fab review, as ever, from Tom Davis on his site Teton Tenkara of the Shimotsuke "Mai Line" Fluorocarbon Furled Taper Line. Happy fishing Phil

These lines are interesting but I've been a little shy of stocking similar products because of issues with "bounce back". When you snag the line and it comes free nylon and fluorocarbon furles can spin themselves into a ball which is not so easy to untangle. This is why uni-thread and kevlar furles are popular. They don't so this.

I think the main issue with these lines is not "bounce back ", I can usually shake and pull out the few tangles that I get in a matter of seconds, but their cost. These lines are retailing at Tenkara- Ya for from 18 to 20 dollars, and the MRP for similarly constructed Pals lines is from 1680 to 6000 yen, about 10 to 34 pounds. You can buy a 100m spool of suitable fluorocarbon at your local tackle shop for about 9 quid, and with just your hands, a pair of scissors and a measure, twizzle up at least six lines from it, exactly to your own liking in length, weight, taper and detail. Well, if your liking is reasonably conventional that is.
Chris.
