I have enjoyed Adam Trahan's wonderful site, Tenkara Fisher, since I first picked up a tenkara rod. So much good stuff to go at with the best collection on the net of interviews with anglers from around the world, both - tenkara and keiryu. Not much talk here in the UK about tenkara's bait brother of fixed line fishing called Keiryu. So, by way of introduction here's Adam's most recent interview with Katsuaki Okabe. Some interesting points made about tenkara too. Enjoy. Perhaps we'll descend into a debate about what real Keiryu fishing is or is not Happy fishing folks Phil

You're beat me to it, Phil. I just logged in here to post something about it. It's a very good interview, informative and heart-warming, one of the very best that Adam Trahan has done.

We've already had that debate here in the States. If you read carefully, you can pick up a faint echo of the debate even in that interview. It never really goes away.

Thanks Chris, only saying tongue in cheek. Good to see the fixed line fishing approach broaden. Saving up for a Keiryu rod of good quality. Any recommendations?
Happy fishing

There are no easy recommendations for tenkara rods - it depends on width of the stream, size of the fish, preferred action, etc etc etc. For keiryu rods, multiply that by 10. The choices are much broader than for tenkara rods - ranging from about 2 meters to about 8 meters in length, from mid flex to extreme tip flex, and from rods stiff as broomsticks to rods designed for a MAXIMUM of 10X tippet. I have been extremely pleased by the quality of the Suntech rods. Daiwa makes very good rods. I have not seen many of the Shimano keiryu rods, but judging from their tenkara rods, they are also likely to be very high quality. Nissin would be the next level down - more affordable but not quite on par with the top names. What to choose really does depend on what you want it for.

When I've looked around on various sites including yours there's so much choice. I'm thinking of keeping things modest at first with something around 5m and not too stiff. Cheers Phil

The one I've got is a "Kurokawa Seikon 5.30-4.90" by Nissin, 'high contrast' with a.75mm tip. I think it's probably very similar to the "YuZX" that Brian has got, only one size up in length and possibly in stiffness. The only reason I chose it over the YuZX was to avoid the sky-blue paint job. Mine's black with silver sparkles and gold bands; "all in the best possible taste."
