As Louis says & many other folks, with Tenkara fly choice is relatively unimportant. I'd be inclined to start off with a simple size 14 black Sakasa Kebari tied with black thread & a black hen hackle (maybe some with a small tungsten bead if you want to get the fly deep early season or for grayling).

Jonathan, Just thought I would mention that I have got the Vol 2 DVD from PG & JP. Very good indeed. It describes, I think I am right, 6 good patterns in close detailed video. You would have the very best description for tying your own kebari's. They are so simple. Great patterns. I am sure you would not be disappointed. Please note...I am not on commission!!

Ha ha no worries I know that my comment earlier in the thread was a tongue in cheek private joke with Paul G

Class flies Jonathan. Going back to your original request.,...somebody obviously gave you some good information. Well done, they look like they will take any fish. Are you going to share the details of the tying?

Are you going to share the details of the tying? I came up with the pattern looking at examples of other kebari through the links and info on this thread and putting a few ideas seen to the vice. I tie all my own flies so its nice to create something different. The dressing is as follows Size 12 or 10 Hends 599bl Body Pearsalls Silk Primrose Collar single peacock herl Hackle upper covert of hen pheasant wing Jonathan

Jonathan, You tie a good fly. Thank you for your information. Let us know how you go on with it. Like you, I fish the Ribble, but it remains too high. Hope to get out soon. Ian.

Ian Thank you. I plan to tie with orange and olive silk too. From what I can see from examples is there are infinate possibilities with the pattern with change of thread colour. Goes against the one fly discipline of tenkara but there's a fly tyers mind for you Where do you fish on the Ribble? Ill be giving these a swim when the season starts Jonathan

Jonathan, I think most fishermen change colour and size etc, but still the same basic fly. Good to try different patterns. I have too many. I fish above Clitheroe. Have a great season. Ian.
