Hi thought I would post my experience from last Saturday, been planing to get out for days but river level in South and West Yorkshire made fishing almost impossible. When I say the snow 4" plus it nearly put me off but a quick chat with my mucker we were kitted of to the river.
When we got there river had dropped a bit and holding steady levels, kitted up in breathable and thermals and in we went, depth about 600mm it's then I thought this is going to be a good day.
The rod I had chosen was the Tenkara USA Rhodo zoom (8'10"-9'9"-10'8") along with a John Pearson bugging line 2.7mt, indicator, 5x tippet, topped of with a pink shrimp, after all I'm after grayling not trout.
1st cast nearside of the tail end of the pool leading the shrimp down, the indicator stalled, lifted the rod and it was fish on, not the targeted fish but a 12" butter belied OSS brown trout.
With that I moved to the other side of the pool where on the 3rd cast following the run I was rewarded with a 9" grailing quickly followed with another grailing of 11" with another OSS fin perfect brown trout, time to move on me thinks.
Fished 2 more likely pools nothing, it looks as though they are shoaled up my mucker shouted. With that we decided it was cuppa time, as we sat there taking in the surroundings drinking tea in the snow with Robins checking to see if we had anything for them, Danny just let it slip that there was a HOT SPOT just around the next bend. That was it, it's just as though someone had fired the starting pistol in the 100mts sprint, I don't think even Usain Bolt could have beaten Danny to the spot, I couldn't but I tried really hard to get first dibs.
As Danny fished through the pool my heart sank a little as 2 fish one trout and one grailing fell to his fishing prowess, "right your turn now" he said and with that he vanished into the ether.
i summoned up my spirits picked my spot and dropped my nymph into the far side of the run just into the edge of the fast run, bang, fish on , a lovely grailing of 10" which was followed by another 7 grailing the largest being 14" , smallest 9", with another 2 OSS brownies.
On such a high we decided to call it a day as the total for me was 10 grailing 4 trout for Danny just 20 fish, huh and no dunkings.
The verdict on the Rhodo was what a great piece of kit being able to alter the length as the stretch we fished was overlooked by trees and high banks.
Oh I forgot to mention in my tally the 2 tree trout I caught one snapping my tippet.
Does it get better than this, I think not but then I also hope it does.
