As requested a couple of photos of some furled leaders I have furled. Most of the tenkara leaders are furled with a 5-3-1 taper using uni 6-0 thread approximately 11 ft. I have recently furled a couple of tenkara leaders with a slightly longer taper in the middle. Hoping to test them over the weekend. They are not unfortunately the easiest thing to photograph. I like furled leaders for Western fishing with my silk line but find they sag too much with Tenkara, particularly when they get water trapped in the furls. I much prefer light level lines as they can be more easily held off the water.

I agree with you totally Dave. When western style fishing I always false cast away from the target to avoid all the water droplets spooking the fish. Is there anything that will completely waterproof a furled leader? I have put dilly wax on but it does not last forever. Cheers Glyn

I use furled leaders most of the time but mine have a forward taper.
