Hi, the great documentary about tenkara, fly fishing and fish conservation in the Itoshiro River system that is featured in a recent blog post ( www.discovertenkara.co.uk/dt-in-japanese-tv-and-magazine-features/) could potentially be made into an English version free video on the web. The documentary producer has supplied us with a complete transcript of the programme in Japanese, but it will cost around £500 to have it translated (the programme is around 45 minutes long). I wondered, first of all, whether people would be interested in seeing the TV programme and also what the likely chances of something like a kickstarter campaign might have in raising the necessary translation costs (I/we would undertake the subtitling and video rendering, hosting etc. free as we did with Dr. Ishigaki's UK lecture). We couldn't sell it commercially, so the £500 is a big chunk to pay on top of the time and resources to produce and host an online edit. What does anyone think? Paul

Many thanks for everyone's messages so far - it is a really nice surprise as we thought that there may not be much/any interest.
I am messaging the program-makers today to try to sort out final details and try to confirm if we can go ahead.
Paul

A quick project update, The program's producer (Maeno-san) has been in negotiation with the station management in Tokyo. They have sent to us (through Maeno-san) an official form to request permission for our project to translate the documentary. Maeno-san believes that this initial approach may well be refused, but he is committed to trying to find a way to make this project successful with the channel. Many thanks for the offers of support so far - they are ALL extremely well appreciated; thank you. I wonder if in the future it may come down to making a petition to send to the management? ! Who knows, and we are certainly not at that stage yet.

Paul Just a thought but is it possible that Ishigaki San can put any pressure to bear on this one on your behalf? Fingers crossed for a satisfactory conclusion Glyn

Fingers crossed for a satisfactory conclusion Glyn Perhaps, although I believe Dr. Ishigaki's main contact with the station will have been at the regional rather than national level (although I could be wrong on that front). He does seem to have a remarkable ability to persuade people in the media about the wonderful merits of all things 'tenkara'.
