I opened a Tweet by Jason Klass of Tenkara Talk today that surprised him. He kindly put the link to a new Ebook call Tenkara Dorset by John RS Allen. I've not come across this title before nor heard any mention on this forum, please do correct me if I am mistaken, despite the book having a publish date in July this year. Has anyone read it? You can look inside and read a sample on the Amazon link I have provided above. Does the author contribute to the forum? All interesting stuff. Cheers Phil

Phil
Saw your post and found the book on my kobo app. Purchased and downloaded looked an interesting read. However I was slightky underwhelmed by the book it was a diary entry style read of the authors fishing visits from 2012 broken down by weather seasons. There were a few inserts on tenkara rod choice and casting but not high detail just the basic facts.
All in all read it cover to cover in 20 mins and not my cup of tea to be honest.

I have the Ebook, it's very interesting . It would be even more interesting if I lived in Dorset. The title gives it away "Tenkara Dorset" . But it's still worth the money as far as I'm concerned even though I live in the North of Scotland (as in North of Inverness) Simply because all my knowledge of Tenkara comes from Books, You Tube, Websites, and Forums like this. Favourite Tenkara websites are Tenkarabum and Tenkara Times, as they have so much information without trying to sell me something. PS I'm a Yorkshireman, who has lived up here for over 30 years.

Hi All, What a great site you have here.. Been reading the site for a few weeks now as a guest, and this is my first post.. I have read this book "Tenkara fishing in Dorset", and recently got his new book, "Tenkara - Ancient and Modern". In his new book there is an email for him, john.allen@asia.com. really liked both books, though the latest book is much better, especially for a novice of tenkara like me. The Tenkara Dorset book brought back a few memories I can say, 'cos I used to live near where he fished, and I fished most of the same places as a kid. I now live in miles away (in France) but may have to have a fishing holiday back in Dorset to retread the old days fishing there... lol. On a different note, can anyone recommend any other good tenkara books ? Cheers all Bob

Hi Bob
Welcome to the forum. Have a look at Kevin C.Kelleher and Misako Ishimura (why do we not hear more about this fab lady, instrumental in arranging the first introduction to tenkara in the Catskills back in 2008) in their book, 'tenkara, Radically Simple, Ultralight Fly Fishing.'
Cheers

I've read John's second book and there is some interesting stuff on learning to make his own bamboo tenkara rod.

Bob I would suggest that you get a copy of the DVD made by JP and PG from Fish on products. It is extremely informative and as they say, a picture paints a thousand words. You will learn plenty from it. All the best Glyn
