The first thing that struck me about tenkara when I stumbled upon it was the similarity of the flies to north country spiders, it's what first attracted me to it.
I fish these flies in the upstream wet fly style mostly on small streams and find them pretty effective.

That works too. I find the upstream method especially useful in very challenging waters like the Valley section of the Laxey river. I can stay better out of sight and send the flies up into the pockets. Partridge and orange along with snipe and purple have been mainstays along with the waterhen bloa and a small black spider.
