I am very interested if there is still a spot available. Just moved to the UK and need to start exploring! Is there a special fishing license or permit required and are there any reasonable priced B&Bs or campgrounds nearby? Thanks!

Hi Karel Welcome to the UK and its finest area, the Welsh Borders! Orangeotter will know whether there are still places on the Social Day, but there are many rivers to fish around here using Tenkara. Trout in the summer and grayling in the winter! Day tickets are available on the Dee at Llangollen, and Severn Rivers has a passport scheme on many local tributaries: www.severnfisheries.com/(The passport vouchers can be used on other catchments, for example, the Wye and Usk) Apart from your ticket you will need a licence to fish in the UK. This covers the whole of England and Wales and is available online: www.gov.uk/fishing-licences/buy-a-fishing-licenceIf you Google for Bed and Breakfast or camping near Chirk, you will find a good selection very near the river. B&B should cost less than £50 a night, £30 is not unusual, and camping could be about 1/2 that, but you'll have to make your own breakfast...

Hi there OO. Glyn alerted me to your post, and I have checked the diary, as for sure I would like to have come. Unfortunately the Hampshire bit of the family arrive that weekend and stay until mid-week. Maybe I'll get the lad up the Wye or Usk instead? All our rivers are very low at the moment and feel like they are well into July already, and then there's this week's "heatwave" yet to come. God help us! Joy oh joy. Will be in touch. All the best and tight lines whereever you wet your line, The Moccasin

Hi Karel, apologies for slow reply. There are some good b+b's in Chirk which you can google, reasonably priced.
All you will need is (as the post from dbl) your EA licence to cover trout and coarse fish, only about £26 to cover you till next April. You can buy this from a Post Office as well as on-line. YOu need no other permit for the social day, just pay the £15 on the day. I'll happily add you to the list. Be in touch later.

Thank you! I was wondering if there are individuals or groups already organized to camp out together somewhere nearby where I could tag on?

Meeting arrangements, Social Day on Ceiriog - Sept' 12th.
We have an allocation from the club of 16, I have received interest from 15 so far.
I'm not seeking confirmation - however, if you now know that you can't make it then let me know, someone else may want to come.
We will meet at 9.30 am and fish until 5.00. The intention then is to have a drink/meal at the Poachers Pocket on the edge of Chirk.
Directions: depending on which direction you're coming from, either drive through Chirk village or enter it but turn opposite the church onto the road signposted Glyn Ceiriog. Proceed past some houses until you see a cafe on the right, bright yellow posts at the entrance.(not open until 10.00). If you see the aquaduct on the left, you've gone too far. We'll meet there.I've just realised that I need to give the post code, sorry.
As riverside parking spaces are limited, the intention is to car share.
The Ceiriog in many places has a rocky bed which can be hard work and potentially dangerous so we suggest a light wading staff and studded boots.
The river at present is desperately low and although rain is forecast we can't predict the height. Should it still be as low we must consider the option of moving the event onto the Dee but we can make this decision a few days before.
Watch this space nearer the time for any changes - I'm sure we'll have great day.
