I came across Valsesiana last year and use them regularly when I want to use a spider fly. Taff Price’s book “Fly Patterns An International Guide” mentions Valsesiana flies but not Tenkara flies. Attachment DeletedSome of the Valsesiana style flies I use. I usually use a cast of three flies and fish them upstream.

dbl, Fantastic video. What a fishing session. He had some wonderful fish and quite a variety, Rainbow, Tiger, Brook, I am guessing now, and what looked like Char type. I wonder why he did not use a net for at least some of the fish?? The rod appeared to bend at the handle or was the handle shaped? Thank you for including the video. adric. Like those flies.

I think it is in Taff Price's book where he says that these flies were sometimes tied on a straight softened needles, mounted in a spinning chuck, and bent into a hook shape afterwards.
It must be camera distortion that makes the rod appear to bend like that.
Chris.

dbl, I was reading a letter in response to an article on Trout's vision. Amongst other things the writer stated that blue is the last colour to be absorbed and if fishing deep it makes sense to use a blue fly. How about that? The letter was published in FF&FT January this year.

This is further to some of the other info' ref American Fly Fisher. In 2008 I was asked to make a lot of these and the client supplied this document which has some interesting points. Who would have guessed that I'd be making and using similar flies today - hope this is of interest.

these flies appear to be much more bushy than regular spiders.
