Being a Tenkara novice I've begun to use two EZ Line Keepers placed on the thickest section of the rod to store my line and tippet while on the stream; it really makes moving from one spot to another much less cumbersome than winding the line/tippet onto the little plastic spools. That said, what's your opinions/recommendations on simply leaving the line/tippet on the line keeper at the end of the day as opposed to disassembling it from the rod. My reasoning in this is that we store our fly line, leader and tippet on reels in "conventional", i.e. western fly fishing. Thanks in advance -

I leave mine set up ready for the next outing, you do need to stretch the line after you take it off the keepers and before you fish but depending on the line the kinks come out pretty easily. You will get other opinions!

I leave mine permanently on except when changing lines. Memory is easily stretched out with a firm pull followed by a slow release of tension.
As for EZ clips, MAKE SURE YOU BUY GENUINE FUJI EZ CLIPS!!!! I've had several of the COPY EZ CLIPS fall to bits either whilst fitting or as yesterday whilst fishing. Check that the supplier's website states that they are FUJI EZ CLIPS not just EZ CLIPS!!!!

Thanks for the helpful replies; my e-z keepers are Fuji and so far no problem. Think I'll try to rig a line keeper set up with buttons and rubber (elastic) bands - sounds interesting - Irv

I have used modified curtain hooks but have now used Easy Keepers from Daniel and they are good. I also leave my rod set up because I am lazy.

Does anyone know the difference between original Fuji Line Keepers and the alternative Chinese copies in terms of design, dimensions, material or weight?
Would appreciate comments on this.

I always go for spools for level lines, they are about as quick to use with just a little practice and I find it impossible, with EZ keepers to get enough of the line memory out to prevent it from spoiling the tension in the bottom leg of the casting loop. That, in turn, spoils accuracy.
Plus, on a spool, you generally only need to stretch out the memory on the first use of the day. With EZ keepers, you need to do it every time and you need to work harder at it too, so it ends up taking longer than using a spool.
If you end up changing lines, spools are also much more efficient (there is nothing to wind the line that you are removing onto unless you have a spool for it).
It is probably quicker to change between two lines, each on their own spools, than it it to change flies (as long as fly and tippet is already attached I both cases).
Just a few thoughts on simple things that I've found to make a big difference. Since I don't use furled lines anymore, I haven't used the EZ keepers for a few years.

I'm with Paul on this one and use spools, the polystyrene ones and the Raji Leica ones and find them really simple . I slip the spool over the broken down rod bottom section and it takes seconds to extend it all again. It forces me to break down when moving rather than risk breaking sections. JP did a little Vimeo footage on how to wind on to the spool correctly to avoid line twist which you may find useful. Tight lines Glyn

Thank you Paul and Glyn for your thoughts on line storage - your experience and advice is much appreciated.

I use both EZ Keepers and spools (definitely EZ Keepers if I am going to put a rigged rod in the car to drive between fishing spots). However, I never leave a line on them overnight. After each trip, all the rods I've used get fully disassembled for thorough drying so the line must come off anyway.

Back to my February 21, 2015 query - what I was trying to discover was why the delivered UK price of the original Fuji hook keepers is 10 times the delivered price of copies from Beijing. Is there a big difference in quality? I am reluctant to buy the original Fuji ones to find out if a member can explain the difference.
