I was hoping to get to the Don tomorrow but am sure this rain will blow it out!
The Nissin zoom rods are very nice. I really like my Pro Spec 2 Way 7:3 for light Tenkara fishing.

Glad you picked up a Nissin Brian. I remember how taken you were with the Air Stage. Glad you had a good day.

Managed a quick half hour on the urban Don with the dog in tow at lunchtime. Fished a combo style of tenkara rod and 12ft level line with a pair of western shrimp patterns. All grayling took manipulated shrimp on the dropper (none to dead drift). One small oos bt took the dead drifted shrimp on the point. This is a hard-fished section (easily publicly accessible)and lots of people fish maggots there too; having the different presentations to go to is a big advantage.

It's lovely when a fish takes a presentation isn't it Phil

Aargh I managed to not only blank today but also to snap the end of my Nissin Pro Spec 2 Way. I'll give tungsten beads a call Monday but I expect I will have to source a replacement from Japan unless anyone has other information......

I'm sure Joel will sort it out for you quick smart. I broke the tip of my Air Stage earlier this year, hold my hand up - user error, and ordered a couple of replace tips from Japan. They arrived in 7 days. Not bad going. Hope it gets sorted as soon as possible. Regards Phil

Thanks for that Phil, some days I'm a bit of a stumble bum! Fortunately not my only rod, but just my current favourite. I know Joel has sold out of the Nissin so I'm not hopeful that he will have any tips.

At Salmon and Trout meeting on Monday night, great talk by Paul Proctor fishing in Iceland.. I stayed the night rather than driving back to York in order that I could fish on Tuesday. I wanted to see if the ranuculous planted by SPRITE volunteers earlier in the year was thriving. Well it was well established and hopefully will spread down stream. I fished for a couple of hours and had 5 grayling and 1 feisty good sized trout.

Well, Stu Steve & I didn't bag up yesterday but we had a great afternoon on the Don above Sheffield. Stu showed us some of Dr Ishigaki's manipulation techniques for Saka Kebaris & I showed Stu & Steve the Italian Style of casting with dry flies. Paul & John kindly came over to show us the 2 new Tenkara USA triple zoom rods. They both felt very nice, extremely light & very little change in action when zoomed to the 3 lengths. I particularly liked the Sato (10 to 13') which cast very nicely. John soon caught a nice grayling whilst demoing bugging with the Sato.
Steve Stu & I then wandered off downstream & we had several oss brownies (mainly on dry flies) & I had a nice grayling on a manipulated black Sakasa Kebari. It was a great social day with lots of talk & enough fishing to satisfy, just a shame we didn't really get into the grayling.

Sorry to hear the grayling weren't too obliging Dave, You know how the saying goes though... "a bad day's fishing is better than a good day at work" Seriously though, that part of the river sees a lot of fishing pressure from quite a lot of clued up anglers. In the last few years we've seen the fishing get tougher and tougher. It was with that in mind that I tried the experimental fly patterns mentioned in the latest blog. We're intending on doing a bit more testing to make sure the results weren't a fluke but it was hard not to notice how much success these flies were getting. Manipulation plays quite a big part in the equation too I think but it needs to be subtle and natural looking. Hopefully we can get out next week and do a bit more testing... then we'll let people in on the secret
