This is my contribution to the Grayling fly swap. This fly has been very successful for Sonia on the Alyn here in North Wales. The body is made out of chamois leather with squirrel at the thorax, along with a 3.5mm tungsten bead. When wet the leather becomes darker and heavier. Simon.

Just a quick rundown of the materials involved. Size 8-10 Gripper stonefly hook. Lead wire to the rear of the case. The case is fine hardwood shavings varnished twice. I may use bug bond instead of varnish in future to speed things up. The thorax is white antron over layered with crystal glass, grey partridge for the legs, black 6/0 thread & black marker for the segmentation across the back of the thorax. I have been using the fly on the point as part of a team of nymphs with the "western rod" & also as a single with the T rod. The Derbyshire Grayling seem to like it! Regards Stevie

Si,
Very light leather with the Chamois fly. A beauty... Also did you find you had to use good quality Chamois? My attempts at these flies resulted in very 'flaky' bodies which I was not too satisfied with.

Thanks to this fly swap this is how the box looks at this time, the extra flys come from my fly box but most from another member. Looks like we may have to have a dry fly tie next, any ideas of what to patterns to tie? A few more flies to come and then I'll post out your collections. Simon

Simon As you are looking at dries now I will do some 'F' flies or similar if that is OK in small sizes. They do take a bit of beating for picky grayling. OK? Cheers Flatsghost

All flies are now in! Thanks to all who took part, time now to sort them and get them in the post. Also thanks to a few who sent in extra for the charity box which is coming along very well. Is there any interest in running another one next month? With a theme yet to be decided. Probably a dry? Any ideas. Also does anyone know how to run a charity auction on eBay? I will need help or ideas how to get the most for the filled box.
