Likewise on the Usk Louis. LDO's plus MB's and now the Grannom since Sunday. Short periods of hectic activity and then quiet. Some good fish coming out to some of our friend DC's patterns! Bucketing down as I type and a drastic change in the weather today but not for too long I believe. Yes, things are well and truly getting going and it makes a change from chucking bugs. Tight lines Glyn

that's good to hear Glyn, the Usk takes some beating but I don't get there enough. DC's pupa also doing well on the Dee for clients. Excellent !

I was teaching today at Sun Bank and decided to have half an hour before going home.
For those that know the beat, I quickly fished the run above the broken bridge (nothing) and then the run above that. Right in the neck I had 2 takes, being a trout and grayling approx 10". At the current low level this is very fishable and I was happy with the result. The ever faithful GRHE SK was the fly.
I saw no fly or rising fish although the weather was still poor but not too cold.
Things can only get better...

3 recent trips to the Dee at CADAC's Coed yr Allt beat with my Amago rigged with a weighted nymph or duo have brought mixed success. A slightly higher river on one trip resulted in a blank, but an earlier trip brought a couple of good grayling from the Ceiriog junction (largest over 14") and some more good grayling and two good OOS WBT (largest about 13") from the glide near the electricity cables. Unfortunately these cables restrict progress in the wadeable area rather badly! On the last trip, last Friday, I concentrated on the glide and was rewarded by one good size grayling of about 13" and 5 smaller grayling ranging from about 5" to about 11". I don't know how the Hanak competition was going upstream, but the river was in nice condition, clear and running steadily giving comfortable wading. Other anglers, fishing the deeper sections below me with various methods reported blanks when I saw them, and I have also tried there with no results recently.

The Hanak produced 1000 fish over 20cm over the two days of the comp.

Thanks Harry. Sounds healthy. Was it the year before last year's washout that they had about 900 fish with about 90 fishing? This sounds even better.

Having just fished the Hanak (4th out of 33 teams) I can confirm that there are a lot of quality fish in the Dee and in the CADAC waters. At the moment there are a lot of salmon in the water so be careful not to walk on the salmon reds and absolutely no shuffling of your feet! Having said that, it means that as soon as you put a foot in the river the grayling are coming to your feet to see if you're a salmon about to dig a red and throw out free food.
My advice is to fish close, take a few steps and fish over the place you were just standing. Good luck.

B5, C7, A9 in that order as a team. Personally I fished just the last two. Try and find the gravel!
On practice day I was at Gwnodl Bach and had plenty of fish from the pool at the bottom and the middle pool after the narrows.

A9 is a good Salmon pool shallow on the beat bank with a deep run down the left hand bank.
The Ladies prefer A7 A8.
B5 is a good gravel bar and you can always find something there.
As for C7 I do not fish The Llangollen waters so cannot comment.
Looking at the stats for the three sessions it is the luck of the draw that plays a big part.

C7 was above Llans waters in Midland Fly water. It has always been a peggy competition but it's usually the same teams that are in the top few places. They can't have a lucky draw every time.
Tenkara fishing has definitely increased my catch rate. Reading the river, variations in manipulation techniques, relying less on pattern and more on presentation. I'll be back at the end of January.
