this is the idea ive come up with for a level line indicator.may have already been done or tried . the level line ive used is flourocarbon in a 0.39mm diameter which roughly equates to 14-15lb bs. length is from tip of my 12ft iwana to start of handle. loop is made from braided dacron that i got from ebay,hi viz orange and a bs of 20lb.this is attached to one end of level line as per jason klass way, which is super simple and can be looked up on his blog tenkaratalk. as for the indicator this is again the same type of dacron braid as above but in a bs of 14lb.it looks same as the 20 but is marginally smaller in diameter. a 6 inch length is then tied onto the other end of level line using a four turn water knot and a very tiny blob of super glue put on the knot...i thought about loop to loop but this looked neater. ive also pulled on the lot far more than what a fish will exert and it went at my tippet which was 2.5lb bs. theres a figure of 8 knot in end of dacron to but tippet upto and thats about it.... first trial run will be this weekend to see how it fairs. will add a smear of red mucilin to the dacron just to keep it up but ive heard that vaseline maybe better. findings of how it goesto follow shortly..............thanks chaps dave

dave1972, I am trying a similar set up tomorrow, only using using 14lb red power gum as the indicator. Not tried it yet but it looks promising. Tight lines tomorrow and take some photos if you are able leckie

The set up that I used on Saturday worked fine....just a pity that I had no takes to evaluate it properly. Until next time then. The instructions on another way to attach a level line from Jasonklass's blogg was very clear....as always..cheers leckie

leckie. i also had no probs but think im going to change the indicator material. after a few casts it tended to start to sink and drag. so, ive found some 10lb red ice mono line on a spool at back of my box so im gonna substitute a length of this for the dacron. also going to increase the length of level line by a few feet as i felt i could get away with it being longer. mr klass has a good blog with lots of info on there, he is like a tenkara yoda........

Forget about the indicators and have a line which you can see. It's far more versatile and pleasant to use.

I agree with Chris on this one. When I first started grayling fishing, quite a while ago I'd use a small indicator when czech nymphing.
However I soon gave it up and relied on sight, feel and that sixth sense you have when somehow you just know you are about to have a take.
I can fish with a high viz or clear line and have no problems seeing or sensing the take.

leckie, I got mine from tenkarabum as I couldn't find anything to match it in the UK. Price, postage and delivery reasonable. I did a little write up about it on his blog. Bill

You already have the line. A little tin of Humbrol enamel costs about £1.30p from your local model shop.

chriscreeler, I'm just placing an order on ebay now for a small tin of Humbrol enamel paint. I'll try the yellow and see how that works. Thanks for the information. leckie

I stretch the line out and put the paint on thinly with my finger and thumb, leaving the last three or four feet nearest the tippet uncovered. It does wear off very slowly, but even when much of it has gone the line is still very visible. I use yellow too.

chriscreeler, In the end chickened out of going for the yellow and went for the fluorescent fiery red instead. Cost £1.95 including postage. You know I was thinking about how to apply the paint and I thought using my forefinger and thumb would be the best option and here you confirm my logic...nice one. I never thought about leaving about leaving 3-4 ft of the line unpainted next to the tippet. Do you think this is important leckie
